One week in…

Ok, just finished with a client after fight training. Let me start off by apologizing for typos in these blogs. It’s not a case of poor spelling on my part, it’s simply that I write off the cuff without editing. Truth is I post mainly from the phone and no matter how much weight I lose my thumbs will be too wide for efficient use of these buttons…

Speaking of weight loss, today at the one week mark I am at 208lb. This is only a 2 pound drop from last Saturday but I’m not discouraged, far from it in fact.  Truth is I’m surprised to have lost ANY weight at all. In general when i first begin training I trim and tighten up but actually put on muscle mass easily. So while my dimensions change, weight takes a bit longer to adjust.

Working out is only one part of the equation and where many make the mistake is to focus on the workout and neglect rest and nutrition. Think about it, if you spend one hour in the gym or at the Camp training, you leave yourself 23 more hours in the day to either do the right or wrong things. All of that time can be spent not eating properly or at all, overeating, drinking alcohol and/or sugary beverages, and not allowing your body the time it needs to rest and recover. If this is the case then the workout, no matter how intense, serves only to break the body down and ultimately the mind with it. I’m a big believer in intuitive training. Yes, absolutely set goals and set out to accomplish them, but be persistant NOT obstinant. Listen to your body and learn to adapt and adjust your workout to be beneficial not detrimental. All the years of training have taught me to listen well and understand my body’s signals. Unfortunately it’s been, shall we say, a bit of a long distance relationship for a few years. I listened, just with no real thought of consequence. Well let me just say my body and I have been ‘catching up for lost time’ as it were. I can tell you it feels neglected and it’s pissed!

This is where I shamelessly plug my new sponsor:P90X has decided to take pity on me and has agreed to sponsor me for this fight and training cycle. It’s nice to see the big companies give to charity in this day and age, yeah? Honestly. I couldn’t be more stoked. The financial sponsordhip is always appreciated but truthfully I’m really happy to be receiving supplements. I, like most athletes(allow me the use of that term in a sweeping suspension of disbelief) spend a good deal on not only proper nutrition but proper supplementation(protein, vitamins, joint support, meal replacement bars, etc. etc.) The P90X recovery drinks are top notch, the protein bars-delicious, and the supplements are all high quality. J has been sponsored by P90X for awhile, Wilson even longer, so it’s nice to be considered on that same team. Check www.beachbody.com to see  complete line of supplements.

So after the talk of proper diet and nutrtion, I will in fact be using the rest of the evening as a ‘cheat day’ as one of our Camp brothers is having an engagement party today. So a shout out and big congratulations to Boi Keophondeth(not that wehave many fighters named Boi). Not only did he graduate and enter the career world last year but today he is officially engaged to be made an honest man.The party started 10AM but in typical Thai/Laos style apparently it’s on all night as I’ll be heading over after leaving Camp. I can’t wait for some super spicy SomTom(green papaya salad)…nothing more refreshing with KhaoNiao(sticky rice). Here’s where I find those two pounds before long!

Ok, gotta get going.  Thanks again to everyone for help this past week. Don’t forget J flies to Vegas Wednesday & I follow friday for the fights Saturday(more on that later in the week). Also, next blog? Thoughts on entrance music for my Nov5 fight. Possible voting on  ridiculous facial hair for the bout. I’m leaning towards handlebar ‘stache or possibly revenge of ‘the Choppa’…gotta decide as we all know it takes a solid 3days for me to sport a full ‘stache. ha!

Hey Kru! Thanks again for stopping by! It’s always a pleasure catching up again. As soon as I get 100%, I’ll be right back in the camp training and cracking pads as usual. I would like to start Rocky (my little brother) up ASAP. Not only does he need to lose the weight, but I think he has the mentality to learn. We’ll catch up some more later!
